Call for Scripts: The WINKS Staged Reading Series Continues (Season Three)

Wide Eyed Productions will be hosting our third installment of the WINKS staged reading series! This time around, we will be focusing exclusively on new theatrical works of adapted content (meaning plays inspired by other works).

The Double Take Reading Series: A Wide Eyed Look at Theatrical Adaptation

Wide Eyed Productions is excited to continue its work on new American plays like our recent, world premiere production of Dead Special Crabs by Dan Kitrosser and the award-winning Animals by Sam Byron. We had such a good response to the previous seasons of readings, we want the fun to continue.

From March through August 2015, please join us on the first Tuesday of every month at The Drama League, where we will feature a 20-minute segment from three original works by three different writers, which are related to, or inspired by, that month’s theme (see below). At the end of each night, the audience will be invited to select their favorite of the evening anonymously. The majority favorite will be named a semifinalist and be invited to submit a full text* to Wide Eyed Productions’ Artistic Board for consideration for our final round.

Two (or three?) overall finalists will be chosen, and given a full staged reading of their play at the end of the WINKS series, and one winning text will be chosen based on audience and board votes. This winning text will then be workshopped with intent to produce in an upcoming season.

What you need to know:

• Playwrights should currently reside within the five boroughs of New York City.
• The play does not need to be a world premiere.
• The play does not need to be a fully completed text when it is initially submitted.
• Musicals will be considered as long as they are submitted with a music sample.
• Directors and casts will be provided by Wide Eyed Productions, but we love it when you have suggestions for people you love to work with!
• *The full text of the final play is not to exceed a 90-minute estimated run time. Semifinalists will be given a deadline for submissions of full texts.
• All submissions must be received by January 15, 2015.
• Please submit selections of text, treatments, and other support material to submissions.wideeyed@gmail.com subject line, the appropriate theme for your play.

The 2015 monthly themes are as follows:  

• MARCH: Anything But Disney: Adaptations from fairy tales from around the world.
• APRIL: Shake it Up: Adaptations from any of the Bard's many works.
• MAY: In the News: Adaptations from past or current news stories from all forms of media.
• JUNE: It’s All Greek to Me: Adaptations from Greek texts and mythos.
• JULY: myTunes: Adaptations from pop songs, opera and other musical inspirations.
• AUGUST: Page Turners: Adaptations from works of literature.

Wide Eyed Productions is excited to continue its work on new American plays like the award winning Animals by Sam Byron and the upcoming New York premiere of Dan Kitrosser's Dead Special Crabs, but we had such a good response to our last reading series, we wanted the fun to continue.

Presenting:
THE SEVEN DEADLY WINKS

Each month at the Drama League Center, we will feature a twenty minute segment from three original works by three different writers which are related to, or inspired by, that month’s “sin.” At the end of each night the audience will be invited to select their favorite of the evening by casting an anonymous ballot. MARKETING INTERN and DEVELOPMENT INTERN

Wide Eyed Productions (“WEP”) is a New York-based collective dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the creation of risk-taking, relevant theatre. Through a core ensemble and collaborative process it is our goal to create new theatre that stimulates the imagination and awakens the public’s passion for high standards in performing arts.

WEP is run completely by enthusiastic volunteers who are passionate about theatre arts. We are currently seeking two dedicated interns for 2012-2013. The roles and responsibilities of each intern are below.

  

Marketing Associate

Duties 

• Works directly with the Communications Chair
• Assists in developing HTML’s for productions and events
• Assists in designing postcards and other print material
• Updates the website and manages content
• Supports the Communications Chair on media outreach
• Monitors trends in non-profit theatre companies and proposes new marketing and communications strategies to management
• Manages the company contact list and mailing list
• Staffs WEP shows and events
• Attends Communication Committee meetings

Required Skills and Training 

• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in communications, design, arts administration or other related field (could currently be in school)
• Knowledge in marketing for a nonprofit theatre company 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel 
• Experience creating templates and designing postcards or other related material
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills 
• Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing 
• Ability to organize and prioritize work Ability to work independently with little supervision 
• Excellent interpersonal skills

Development Associate

      Duties

• Works directly with the Fund Development Chair
• Process donations and prepare acknowledgement letters and other correspondence
• Maintain foundation, corporation and individual donor files
• Create monthly fundraising reports
• Conduct preliminary research on prospective corporate foundation and individual donors
• Coordinate mailings for save-the-dates, invitation and appeal letters for WEP’s Gala
• Maintain guest lists, gather and prepare registration materials and other duties as assigned for fund-raising events
• Work with the Fund Development Chair on writing and tracking grant proposals
• Staff WEP shows and events
• Attend Fund Development Committee meetings

      Required Skills and Training

• Associate's or bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, fundraising, arts administration or other related field (could currently be in school
• Knowledge in fundraising for an arts organization
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills

Apprentice Playwrights Program (Internship)

Wide Eyed Productions is now accepting submissions for its Apprentice Playwrights Program. Playwrights will work with Wide Eyed throughout the 2011-12 season on various aspects of their writing careers. WEP will provide the playwrights with workshop and reading opportunities as well as career development support. Playwrights will also serve as administrative/production interns for the 2011-12 season.

WEP will be taking on 3 apprentice playwrights for the 2011-12 season. The playwrights will receive the following:

workshop opportunities for one act plays
access to WEP’s stable of ridiculously talented actors
staged reading(s) of a one act play in front of an invited audience
mediated and structured audience feedback sessions after readings
sponsorship into playwrighting competitions (possible production support if accepted)
career development coaching

mentorship from both WEP’s Artistic Director and Resident Playwright
opportunity to work with WEP’s new devised work program

Wide Eyed Productions presents A Girl Wrote It. An evening of One-Act plays by women playwrights. Because just 17% of America's main stage productions are written by women, Wide Eyed attempts to tip the scales and expose eager audiences to more fantastic theatre. A Girl Wrote It is an ambitious evening of 4 dark, dangerous and humorous plays with universal themes. Wide Eyed takes great pride in presenting cohesive, well designed collections, and A Girl Wrote It is sure to please even the most discerning audience. In a review of our last showcase, Martin Denton said it was "a sterling example of how to mount an evening of short plays."

Plight of the Apothecary by Elizabeth Birkenmeier; Sexually ambivalent siblings explore the limits of their post apocalyptic reality in this poetic, mind-bending, dark comedy.- Seeking: 2 females & 3 males- Early 20s- late 30s in appearance- must have great comic timing and an appreciation for the avant-garde.

Clementine by Lynda Green; A police stand-off is fertile ground for spiritual healing. A hostage situation turns into a beautiful night in. Seeking: 1 female, 2 males- 20s-30s.

Selection by Kris Montgomery; Where do babies come from? In the future they come from screened donors chosen for their I.Q. scores. Sounds like a good idea-- unless you're below the line. Seeking: 3 females and 2 males- mid 20s to late 30s

The Return of Toodles Von Flooz by Lisa Ferber; "A film noir satire as dark as my third nipple and twice as funny." Betty O'Boozenberg, the Irish Jew, helps uncover the mystery of Toodles Von Flooz in this barroom morality tale. – Seeking: 2 females, 1 male- 20s-30s, with excellent comic timing- Looks similar Lauren Bacall, Gloria Grahame, Humphrey Bogart, Alan Ladd (and the like) are preferred.

Call for Scripts!

Wide Eyed Productions is hosting an evening of One-Act plays written exclusively by women. The evening will be performed at The Red Room Theatre in New York from 2/3/11 through 2/19/11.

Guidelines: Plays must be original, 10-30 minutes in length, cast of characters from 1-8, any theme.

Please submit all plays via email in PDF format along with the play's production history, a character breakdown and a short bio of the playwright.
